Maternity Session FAQ

How many weeks is ideal for a maternity session?

Maternity sessions are typically done between 30 to 37 weeks. The timing is different for everyone and I recommend that you don’t wait too late because you will never know when the baby will actually come.

How soon should I schedule my session?

It’s never too early to schedule your maternity session. Sometimes I can accommodate last minute requests, but I recommend a 4-6 week notice. I usually book most of maternity sessions on weekends so if you would like a weekend appointment it is important to book early as Saturdays and Sundays are booked fast.

Where can you do maternity photo sessions?

We have done maternity sessions at home, in a park, on the beach and in studios.  Our natural light studio is located in Wong Chuk Hang near One island South.  We also use studios in Kennedy Town and on Kowloon side in Sun Po Kong.

Does time of the day matter when scheduling a maternity shoot?

In-studio maternity sessions are done with professional lighting equipment so the time of the day does not matter.

Outdoor (park, beach session) is scheduled to start 2 hours before sunset time.  Session with elder kid(s) is best to be scheduled at times when the kids will be most happy and energetic.  Avoid nap and meal time.

Can I have a maternity session at my home?

Yes. I can travel to a location of your choice. I can bring backdrops and lighting equipment with me that will transform your home into a wonderful photography studio if your space allows (ideally I will need at least 6’by12’ open space with high ceiling). However, if you would like the diversity of lighting set ups, backdrops and silhouettes, I recommend that you choose studio session. A daylight session can also be requested at your location. In this case a beautiful home interior can be a backdrop for your images.

- Professional post-processing and artistic retouching the images selected by you

- Private gallery with the final images

- Additional touch ups (if requested)

Do you provide fabrics/wraps?

Yes. I provide a selection of beautiful sheer Italian silks and and other fabrics for draping.

Can my partner or my child be in the pictures?

Absolutely! The father of your child is welcome and encouraged to join. If you are bringing your child or children, please bring someone to help keep them occupied. Please note, that family images with children require more time and therefore you might need a longer session.

How do I prepare for the session?

- Try not to wear tight underwear and clothing on the day of the session to prevent marks on your skin.

- Get a manicure and a pedicure a day or two in advance.  Do face mask daily for a few days before the session will add glow to your skin.

- Prepare your hair and make up before you get to the session.

I recommend natural daytime make up with even skin tone, accented cheek bones and plenty of mascara. Soft natural curls are best for the hair.

What should I wear for my maternity session?

After you book your maternity session, I will send you the What to Wear Guide so that you can have an idea of what you may bring. If the majority of images you are looking to do are artistic nudes, I recommend bringing less clothes. Some of the popular clothing items are:

- Bandeau tops

- Lingerie

- Form fitting dresses

- Flowy maxi dresses

Do I have to be nude?

Not at all. All of my maternity sessions are customized and tailored to the wants and needs of each client. Some clients prefer clean and simple artistic nude photographs and wraps, while others prefer to wear less revealing outfits or to be fully clothed.

Should I be concerned about extra weight (chin, arms, thighs) and stretch marks?

I want you to feel beautiful and relaxed during your photography experience as well as to treasure your final images. Professional retouching is included in your session and you don’t have to worry about any imperfections such as blemishes, stretch marks and certain body contours.

This is my first studio photography experience. Will you guide me and help me pose?

You are in good hands and I want to make sure that you will have the best selection of artistic images. I will be guiding you throughout your session, adjusting your hair, draping you, helping with outfits and making sure you feel comfortable and relaxed.

I would like to take similar images/poses that I saw in your portfolio. Can we do that?

Yes. You can pick your favorite lighting/backdrop set ups and poses from my portfolio and you are welcome to bring your own ideas as well.

Will I be able to preview all images from the shoot and select my favorite shots?

Yes. Your custom maternity session includes a preview of all good pictures and selection of only the best images for retouching. I want you to be completely satisfied and know exactly what you will be getting.

How many images will I have to choose from?

One-hour sessions typically yield 100-150 proofs.

Can I request more images to be retouched?

Definitely! Sometimes it is hard to narrow down your favorite images and you can add-on more images for retouching for an additional fee.

What is the turnaround time?

It typically takes 2 weeks to finish working on the images. You will be notified

when your on-line gallery is ready.

Do I need to come to the studio to see final images?

No. All of the sessions are proofed on-line, so there is no need to make an appointment and come to the studio to see your final images. You will have a private password protected gallery which you can share with your family members and friends if you wish. Your high resolution images will be delivered via download from your gallery. Simple, quick and easy.

What if I need a slight touch up on a final image?

I want you to be satisfied with your final images, so the additional touch ups are included in your session.

Will my final images be in color or b&w?

Both! All of your final color images will also have b&w duplicates so that you have the freedom to choose the color that you prefer when making your own prints or displaying and sharing your images.

Can I purchase prints from you?

We do not sell loose prints.  We sell framed prints with prices starting at $1280.  We do sell the digital files with retouch so you can print as many as you'd like at a recommended professional lab or any lab near you.

Will my images stay private?

Privacy is taken seriously and your maternity images will not be used in any way without your permission.
